Majority of students reject Yale alumni in Trump’s cabinet

Washington has long been populated by Yalies, and President Donald Trump’s Washington will be no different. Trump has nominated three Yale alumni — ex-neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson ’73, retired Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin ’85 and former investor and banker Wilbur Ross ’59 — to serve in his cabinet. But the majority of Yale students view these cabinet picks unfavorably, according to a News survey released in January.

Seven hundred and forty-three students responded to the survey, and the results were not adjusted for bias.

Speaking at a rally on Monday in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the real estate mogul and golf course developer said the second-term president plays more golf than a PGA Tour pro.

“It was reported today he played 250 rounds of golf and he’s going to be in Hawaii, I think did they say for three weeks?” Trump said. “Two hundred and fifty rounds, that’s more than a guy who plays in the PGA Tour plays. He played more golf last year than Tiger Woods. We don’t have time for this. We have to work.”

Apple, Google, 95 other U.S. companies file in opposition to Trump’s immigration ban

Filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in support of a lawsuit from Minnesota and Washington states, the brief boasts signatories mainly from the tech realm, including the likes of Facebook, eBay, Microsoft, Netflix, Intel, Twitter and Uber, Reuters reports. Consumer goods companies like Levi Strauss and Chobani also backed the filing.

Notably absent from the list are Amazon, HP, Oracle and Yahoo, though Amazon and its CEO Jeff Bezos are already backing the originating lawsuit lodged by Washington state’s attorney general. The suit, which on Friday resulted in a temporary restraining order against Trump’s ban, survived an attempted emergency stay initiated by the Department of Justice over the weekend.

The Trump administration put Iran “on notice” last week, but Vice President Mike Pence said Sunday that the White House right now is evaluating whether to keep in place the nuclear deal with Tehran that President Trump said he’d shred if elected.

In an interview with ABC News that aired Sunday, the vice president said no decisions have been made as to whether the U.S. will honor the agreement made between the Obama administration, Iran and other world powers. The deal aims to halt Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

As the U.S. courts try to sort out President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban, Iran has switched course and decided to allow American wrestlers to compete in a high-profile international tournament this month.

The World Cup takes place Feb. 16-17 in Kermanshah, Iran, and Friday the country decided to bar the United States from competing, a direct response to Trump’s executive order that temporarily banned citizens from Iran and six other Muslim-majority countries as well as refugees worldwide from entering the United States.
